Wound care involves medical interventions to heal a wound after injury. Specialized treatment is provided for wounds that are nonhealing or refuse to heal on their own. A vital aspect of treatment includes learning how to properly dress and care for a wound.

We will not only assess and treat your wound, but will also develop a comprehensive long-term care plan. We will educate you in proper techniques for changing dressings, wound protection and preventing new wounds.

Hyperbaric oxygen treatment (HBOT)

HBOT is a therapy that uses oxygen to heal wounds using a pressurized hyperbaric chamber. Inside, you will breathe 100 percent oxygen, which saturates the blood plasma 20 times the normal level. The high oxygen can penetrate damaged tissue up to four times deeper than by breathing air alone, helping it to revive and heal.

The HBOT environment builds new blood vessels, decreases painful swelling and offers additional healing benefits to your tissue. It also kills harmful bacteria and neutralizes tissue-destroying oxygen radicals, allowing your body's repair processes to increase.

What to expect during HBOT treatment

Before treatment, you will be given cotton garments to wear inside the hyperbaric oxygen chamber. For safety reasons, no other clothing may be worn in the chamber. Once you're inside and have gotten comfortably settled within, the technicians will begin gradually introducing pressure.

The increased pressure might cause the sensation of fullness in your ears. Your technicians will talk you through methods to alleviate any discomfort.

Most treatment sessions last approximately two hours. While undergoing treatment, you may watch TV, relax or even sleep.
