A single decision as a high school senior changed the entire trajectory of Carolyn's life. While attending McEwen High School, the inaugural health science program launched at neighboring Waverly High School. Carolyn was given the opportunity to participate — a choice that opened the door to a remarkable 45-year career in nursing.

During her senior year, one of the health science instructors encouraged Carolyn to apply to a program in Dickson to earn her LPN license following high school graduation. She was accepted - a step that ultimately introduced her to Horizon. During her clinical rotations at Horizon, she met the nursing director who encouraged her to apply for a patient care tech position.

January 18, 2026, marks 45 years since her journey at Horizon began. Since then, she has earned her RN from Columbia State and has steadily advanced through the ranks. She was a cornerstone on the South unit, serving as charge nurse and shaping the journeys of countless nursing students and new nurses. In her "retirement," Carolyn has transitioned to our rehab unit - serving as a steady presence in an area experiencing tremendous growth.

When asked what keeps her here, Carolyn talks about the difference she gets to make every shift in the lives of her patients and the deep relationships she has built with her colleagues. Together, they have celebrated life's milestones — weddings, new babies, and watching each other's children grow up.

Reflecting on the most significant change she's witnessed in her career, Carolyn points to technology - not only the advancements in life-saving procedures and equipment, but also the evolution of computers and the safeguards built into electronic health systems that support safer, more efficient care.

Join us in celebrating Carolyn and her commitment to her profession, to her patients, and to her colleagues. She embodies the spirit of service that defines Horizon — and we are so grateful she is part of our family!
