Mark Beck

At TriStar Skyline Medical Center, we witness life-changing journeys daily. Mark Beck went from being mobile to wheelchair-bound after he fell from a 15-foot ladder causing multiple hip and pelvis fractures. Recently, he walked back into the hospital to thank his care team, especially his nurse Taylor, for helping him regain his mobility.
Mark arrived to TriStar Skyline as a level one trauma patient and underwent several surgeries. He spent six days in a step-down unit, and then he moved to the inpatient rehabilitation unit. During those first six days in the hospital, Mark’s recovery journey began with Taylor's guidance. She helped him slowly regain his movement and prepare for the next step in his recovery journey.
Taylor set daily mobility goals for Mark, often using dance moves to make the process relatable and encouraging. Her approach helped him understand his progress without medical jargon and taught him resilience and the value of a supportive healthcare team.
“God made you to do this work,” Beck told Taylor. “You don’t understand what you did for me.”
After 15 days, Mark was discharged to continue his recovery at home. In July, he returned to thank the staff and Taylor. He said it felt like he was reuniting with old friends.
Taylor is grateful for the impact she had on Mark's recovery. She enjoys reunions with former patients because they are just as meaningful for the caregivers who support them.
