Students receive $10,000 in scholarships from TriStar Horizon Volunteer Organization

Hospital volunteers award high school students pursuing a healthcare career with scholarships totaling $10,000.

Ten area high school graduates have been selected to receive scholarship awards totaling $10,000 through the TriStar Horizon Volunteers Scholarship Program. The scholarships are awarded annually to eligible high school seniors from Creek Wood and Dickson County High Schools who wish to pursue healthcare related careers.

“TriStar Horizon is committed to supporting the growing healthcare needs in our community. I appreciate our volunteers for generously investing in the future generation of our workforce,” said Cindy Bergmeier, chief executive officer. "I am confident the future of healthcare is in good hands with these bright minds."

The recipients from Creek Wood High School include Gracelyn Carson (Austin Peay, Speech Language Pathology), Lexie Chascsa (Union University, Emergency Medicine), Jessica Hagewood (Columbia State, EMT/Paramedic), Madison Ingle (Austin Peay, Aerospace Medicine) Emma Lou Law (Tennessee Tech, Nursing), William Nesbitt (UT Knoxville, Neurology) and Gracyn Miller (Tennessee Tech, Physical Therapy).

The students receiving a scholarship from Dickson County High School are Carlie Breese (Auburn University, Physician Assistant), Lillie Harris (UT Knoxville, Pediatric Psychiatry), and Madelyn Pitney (Lee University, Nursing).

TriStar Horizon Medical Center Volunteer Organization is a 501(c)(3), nonprofit organization. This scholarship program is part of their organization’s way of giving back to the community. Money is raised through gift shop sales. Committee members included Linda Genalla, Charlie Daniel, Sue Hafner, Kathy Douthitt, Barbara Weatherspoon, and C.C. Albright.
