TriStar Skyline Medical Center is proud to announce the expansion of its cardiovascular services north of Nashville, enhancing access to cutting-edge cardiac care with advanced technology. TriStar Skyline cardiologists Dr. Terry Ketch, Dr. Christopher Conley and Dr. John Cleator have joined Tennessee Heart and Vascular, a leader in cardiac care for over 40 years, to establish a comprehensive practice on the TriStar Skyline campus.

Tennessee Heart and Vascular was established in 1984 when Dr. Thomas Frist, Sr., co-founder of HCA Healthcare, recruited Dr. Tracy Q. Callister to pioneer cardiology north of Nashville. Shortly thereafter, Dr. Callister was joined by Dr. Donald Russo, laying the foundation for a practice that would grow to meet the growing cardiac needs of the region.

Over the years, Tennessee Heart and Vascular has grown to include 14 cardiologists and operates four main locations in Sumner, Davidson and Robertson counties, along with seven outreach clinics dedicated to innovative care and improving patient outcomes.

“Our mission has always been to provide accessible, top-tier cardiac care to Middle Tennessee,” said Dr. Callister, the founding cardiologist. “Expanding to TriStar Skyline, alongside our presence at TriStar Hendersonville and TriStar NorthCrest, ensures that we continue to deliver on our promise to bring innovative and excellent care to the communities we serve.”

As part of the TriStar Health network, Tennessee Heart and Vascular has long served TriStar Hendersonville, TriStar NorthCrest and many other communities north of Nashville. This expansion to TriStar Skyline builds on its legacy of excellence by offering state-of-the-art diagnostics and treatments designed to improve outcomes for patients with even the most complex heart conditions. This growth represents a significant advancement in delivering coordinated, high-quality cardiovascular care across the region and includes the following:

  • Cardiac CTA (Computed Tomography Angiography): A non-invasive imaging test that provides detailed 3D images of the coronary arteries, enabling early and accurate detection of heart disease.
  • Cardiac Calcium Scoring: A quick, painless scan that measures calcium deposits in coronary arteries, helping assess the risk of heart attack and guide preventive care.
  • Shockwave Technology: An innovative treatment for severe coronary artery blockages that uses acoustic waves to break up calcified plaques, improving blood flow and making stent placement safer and more effective.
  • Percutaneous Ventricular Assist Device: A state-of-the-art heart pump that temporarily supports cardiac function during high-risk procedures or in cases of cardiogenic shock, allowing for safer and more effective interventions.

“These advanced technologies represent our commitment to providing the most comprehensive and effective cardiovascular care available,” said Brian Marger, chief executive officer of TriStar Skyline. “By offering these services, our community can have better access to high-quality heart care closer to home.”

TriStar Skyline is currently undergoing a multi-phase enhancement project for its cardiac catheterization department. The updated and expanded cardiac catheterization lab is being designed to accommodate new services and increased cardiology coverage. It is expected to be fully operational by spring 2025.
