Zack Parrish continues recovery milestones with help from the TriStar Health network
Zack is recovering well after rehabilitation and treatment for sepsis at TriStar.
“I never thought it could be sepsis,” said Zack Parish. But, at 34-years-old, Zack found himself on a medical transport helicopter ride to TriStar Centennial Medical Center to receive treatment for the potentially life-threatening diagnosis.
“I thought it was just a routine dental appointment, and next thing I know I was in the hospital,” said Zack. Within three days of having a dental procedure, he was lethargic and experiencing chest pains. His girlfriend knew something wasn’t right and called 911. Upon arrival to TriStar Hendersonville Medical Center, it was determined he was in septic shock and immediately needed a higher level of care.
For the next two months, Zack received treatment for sepsis at TriStar Centennial. Sepsis is an overwhelming infection of the blood that can lead to severe organ failure and even death. This condition requires fast recognition and treatment.
His recovery would take a little longer. Zack needed to regain his strength and move closer to full independence and his active lifestyle. He was admitted to inpatient rehabilitation at TriStar Southern Hills Medical Center for three weeks, before continuing outpatient therapy at TriStar Centennial. Throughout his journey, Zack has been grateful for his care team.
“The team here is like family to me. I’ll miss my therapist when I finish treatment,” Zack said.
With the rapid response of Zack’s medical providers, and his determination, Zack is well on his way to recovery.
“When Zack first started in the rehab program, he was in a wheelchair. His range of motion was very limited and suffered from a frozen shoulder,” said Erfan Izadi, director of inpatient and outpatient rehab. “With his determination and dedication to therapy, he should be running by Christmas.”
For now, Zack continues his rehab appointments and looks forward to continuing to achieve milestones in his recovery.
